Melanie is a Partner at Rees R & Sydney Jones and the leader of the EEA division. She began her career as a lawyer at Rees R & Sydney Jones in 2006, became a Partner of the firm in 2010, and in 2020 became the first female Managing Partner of the firm, guiding its growth and vision for five impactful years.
Often described by her clients as a “straight shooter”, Melanie takes great pride in representing the hardworking and resilient landowners in the CQ region. She particularly enjoys staying ahead of new markets in the sector including carbon agreements, environmental law and access agreements.
Melanie contributes to the local community through fundraising efforts for drought-affected rural families, and as President of the Central Queensland Law Association and a Director of the Fitzroy Basin Association. Melanie is passionate about law reform and is currently the Chair of the Queensland Law Society Energy and Resources Policy Committee and a member of the Queensland Law Society Water and Agribusiness Policy Committee.
When Melanie isn’t working she is spending time with her two young children or indulging her love of sport.
