Matthew Dunlop

Matthew was raised in the Rockhampton region before departing to begin his legal studies in Townsville, Brisbane, and Canada.  Matthew completed his studies and began a career in civil litigation before moving back to Rockhampton in 2017.

Since joining the Rees R & Sydney Jones team, Matthew has assisted our clients with a wide range of property-related matters.  On behalf of his clients, Matthew is regularly negotiating land access and compensation agreements with resource companies, option and lease documents with telecommunication companies and renewable energy companies, and recovering disturbance costs for land compulsorily acquired.

Matthew is a firm believer that there are early solutions available to his clients’ legal challenges.  Matthew has over 10 years of civil litigation experience but now primarily assists his clients negotiate various resource and energy agreements over their land and enjoys working with them to find outcomes most suitable to them.  Additionally, he is a nationally accredited mediator (NMAS) and applies his knowledge and experience in his positions outside of the firm with:

  • Central Queensland Community Legal Centre;
  • QLS Dispute Resolution Committee;
  • Resolution Institute State (Qld) Committee; and
  • CQUniversity.

Matthew relieves the stresses of legal practice by playing with his two border collies, regular game nights with other legal professionals, and organising single malt whiskies with his local whisky club, Whisky Business.
